NEWS - FREELINE ACCESSORIES
FREELINE PRESENTS THREE NEW FEATURES IN ITS LINE OF ACCESSORIES FOR THE KART RACING MARKET: new magnesium rims, a rear hub with six fastenings and the absolutely new Motorsport Hi-Tech adjustable aluminium steering column.
MAGNESIUM RIMS The new magnesium rims are the result of a project aimed at optimizing the performance of the tires. Tests carried out by the Birel racing department have, in fact, shown lower and more uniform tread wear in comparison with the previous model. To the eye, the differences are mainly in form (the new model contains less space between the rim and the tire) and in the anchor points at the rear hub which, from the standard three, can be increased to six. Increasing the anchor points can lead to stiffness of the rim-hub ensemble which will guarantee a better “grip” at the rear.
HUB WITH SIX FASTENINGS The new rear-ends are designed primarily to be combined with the new magnesium rims which allow up to six anchor points to the hub. For this reason the standard model has three anchor points which can be increased when necessary to improve the stiffness of the rear-end. Another novelty is the system of securing it to the axle with an aluminium strip which sets on the entire circumference of the hub, allowing it to "work" in a more efficient and stable manner.
MOTORSPORT HI-TECH STEERING COLUMN This represents a true novelty in the kart world: the possibility to react easily and immediately with dozens of possible steering wheel angles. Due to two eccentric screws mounted at the height where the “tie rods” are anchored, it is, in fact, possible to make adjustments on both the "X" and "Y" axes. Each of the two tie rods can be adjusted in 8 different calibrations for dozens of possible combinations. At some tracks asymmetric adjustments can also be made between the right and left tires, always reacting quickly according to the position of the screws. The new steering column is made of anodized aluminium and is lighter than the standard steering column, besides being created in a much sought after and captivating design in the classic Motorsport colours.

CARTBC - March 31 & April 1st. Race #1 one of the Westwood Karting Association season.
R3 Karting had a great weekend. Mitch Frost placed First in Junior 1A. New Driver Jadi Saunders qualified on Pole in Junior 1B.

Jadi Saunder
Brody Goble qualified on Pole in his first race event on board his new 2007 Birel M32 with Taylor Archer 3rd, Clay Beier 5th, Mel Snow 7th, Stuart Shaw in 9th and Mike Peltier rounding out the field you would have thought they had it planned to take the inside row for Spec 125 light.
In the first heat Brody, Taylor and Clay were all invloved in a racing incident that sent them to the pits for repair work. This trio showed their strength in the final by methodically working their way from the rear of the pack back into the top 5 with Brody Goble placing a very respectable 2nd.
In WKA both John Van Essen and Ferenc Busa are quickly making great gains in their driving abilities and most importantly the entire R3 Team is having a fantastic time sharing information, tips and tricks and helping each other out when need.

Brody Goble moves to R3 Karting / Birel for 2007

| Brody Goble |
The flurry of driver announcements continues this week as R3 Karting announced the signing of Brody Goble for the upcoming season. The 16-year-old from White Rock, British Columbia, will contest ICA in the Snap-On Stars of Karting Western Championship and make a return to the coveted Superkarts! USA SuperNationals in the fall to race TaG Senior. In just two seasons of karting, Goble has shown that he is a natural racing talent in producing strong results on the US National stage. A relative late comer to the karting scene, the Semiahmoo Secondary School student has become a frontrunner in the West Coast Leopard Challenge and in the sport's upper echelons such as Stars and at SKUSA SuperNats.
Just a few short months ago in Vegas, Goble qualified and impressive 9th of 81 in TaG senior and after being taken out of his first heat, rebounded with a 7th and 5th in the following pair. It led to a starting position of 23rd in the main event, which Goble improved to 9th over the race distance. He also faired well at the Stars of Karting ICA National Final at Woodbine Race Track in Toronto, qualifying 8th. Crashed out of a pair of heats, Goble finished seventh in between and had turned 26th into tenth in the main event before a loose steering hub relegated him to 15th in the closing stages. In the Western Canadian Leopard Challenge in 2007, Goble won seven of nine starts and placed second in the other two! He’s a rising talent to be sure, and one that R3's Tracy Beier took note of.
“I watched Brody last year and he has what it takes: talent, ambition and drive,” the R3 Team Manager said. “We are excited to have Brody on the team and look forward to helping propel him toward the front in 2007.”
For his part, Goble said he is looking forward to continuing his development this season with the Abbotsford, British Columbia, based team. “I am extremely excited to work with Tracy Beier and the R3 Karting team,” he said Monday. “Tracy's vast knowledge of karting coupled with a Birel chassis will make the 2007 campaign a great one!”
R3 Karting has proven success with its engine devolvement and driver training programs and a limited number of seats remain available for the Stars of Karting Western Championship. R3 Karting also specializes in TM ICA, Leopard and ROTAX, which was recently added to the Stars Spec Racer category. |
SNOW!!
For immediate release;
R3 Karting is please to announce the addition of Mel Snow and Allyssa Snow.
Mel has a long list of accomplishments that include a second place finish at the 2005 SKUSA Super Nats in the Tag Masters class and a spectacular charge from the rear of the pack to a top ten finish at the 2006 Super Nats. Mel is a consistent front runner and we look forward to seeing him at the front in 2007.
Allyssa Snow will bring her girl power to the team. Allyssa has progressed steadily in her karting career and was recognized as the most improved junior in 2005.
“We are very happy to announce that Mel Snow and his family have joined our ranks. Mel is an excellent driver, tuner and just an all round great guy. Our Team has grown so quickly in the last couple of years that we really needed someone with Mel’s knowledge and experience. R3 prides itself on service and teamwork and Mel’s attitude is a perfect fit. Mel and Allyssa will be a great asset, both to Team R3 and R3 Karting” stated owner Tracy Beier.
In 2006 both Mel and Allyssa received Sportsman Ship of the year recognition in the Senior and Junior categories. This is a great honor and speaks highly of this father and daughter duo as these award recipients are selected by fellow racers and competitors.
Mel would like to thank all of his past team members for all of their help and support as he looks forward to the opportunities available by joining forces with the fast growing Team of R3 Karting.

For Immediate Release:
Canadian Karter Taylor Archer Earns Pacific F2000 Test with BWM Engineering
Buttonwillow, Calif. (October 21, 2006) – Taylor Archer a first year kart racer from Vancouver Canada has been rewarded for his rapid accent in karting with a full day test in a Pacific F2000 at Buttonwillow Raceway. The test was offered to him by BWM Engineering, Hankook Tires, and Buttonwillow Raceway.

Archer a 17 year old novice to karting, raced out of the Rapid Reflex Racing (R3) Kart shop (www.r3karting.com) in the ultra competitive ROK Challenge and Spec 125 classes.
Taylor stepped on the podium in his 5th race and then took the top step of the podium in only his 6th race. Because of his on track performances and his in paddock attitude,
Taylor was invited to the Canadian Championship for the ROK Challenge. At the National Championship Archer made a very positive name for himself by qualifying his Birel chassis third in inclement conditions, and finished third in the pre-final. Competing in the most exciting final in recent memory, Archer ran as high as second and ultimately finished fifth, one second off of the leader at the finish, running the same lap times as the eventual race winner.
Taylor was commended by all of his competitors and the Series sponsors for making such a mature, positive impact to the series and the Canadian ROK final
“I would like to thank the team at BWM Engineering, Hankook Tires, and Buttonwillow Raceway for this incredible opportunity to demonstrate my ability to learn and develop at the F2000 formula”, Archer said. “I would also like to thank the R3 Karting team for their support in my race development this season”, he noted.
“We, at BWM, have been familiar with Archer’s competitive capabilities in other forms of sport, it is not a surprise to us to see the success that
Taylor has had in his first year of racing. Taylor is indicative of the type of individual that we feel is deserving of the opportunity to demonstrate his ability to develop as a competent race car driver”, says
Wilson . “BWM continues our success in bringing talented young drivers into the Pacific F2000 series.
Taylor ’s mature approach to racing is a positive foundation for his development in the ladder system of racing ahead of him. Our team has a good history in the Pacific F2000 series and there’s a great group of talented youngsters taking part," continued
Wilson . "It is one more investment in our team, the series and a talented driver to give
Taylor an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities at this level."
Taylor’s plans for 2007 are not confirmed yet, however he will compete in the Rotax Challenge and Spec 125 Series in the
Pacific Northwest , as well Archer will work to continue to expand his abilities in other forms of motor sport.
For Pacific F2000 Championship founder Les Phillips, the F2000 test for Archer provides a further validation of the series’ worth. "With the help of BWM and our generous Series sponsors we are happy to offer this opportunity. We’ve just finished our third season and it’s good to know that our influence in the driver ladder system continues to grow. Our successful drivers from past years continue to progress to higher levels and standards.”
The Pacific 2000 Championship offers a chassis-engine-tire package that has proven to be, by far, the best value-for-money platform. The combination of fast tracks like California Speedway and more technical challenges like Infineon and Buttonwillow Raceway have provided a great variety of developmental opportunities and tuning challenges for the young drivers in 2006.
"The 2007 season is already taking shape and the entry count will be even higher than the 20-plus cars per event over the past two years," added Phillips. "Drivers from karting and the SCCA are all recognizing the benefits that the Pacific F2000 Championship provides toward career advancement."
Supporters of the Pacific F2000 Championship include Hankook Tire, Sunoco Oil, Porterfield Brakes, Buttonwillow Raceway, Quicksilver RaceEngines, Taylor Engineering, Nordskog Instruments, Williams Racing Developments, Driving Impressions and Wine Country Motorsports.
Formula Ford 2000 represents one of the first rungs on the professional open-wheel auto racing ladder in North America and has provided the launching pad for the careers of many top racers, including Champ Car World Series champions Jimmy Vasser and Paul Tracy, as well as the three most recent Indianapolis 500 winners, Buddy Rice, Dan Wheldon and Sam Hornish Jr.

STARS in TUCSON

Birel takes 2 wins and 5 more podiums during Stars of Karting Western Series in Tucson
Birel drivers continued their strong results in the Snap-On Stars of Karting Series presented by IRL by taking two victories and five more podiums throughout the weekend. The MRP-Birel AMERICA engineering team was on hand to assist in the support of the Birel contingent as well as to assist dealers with their programs. The results have been overwhelming as Birel is the only brand so far this season that has taken victory in all five classes (ICC, ICA, Spec Racer, JICA and Cadet) in only two events thus far.
“We are very happy with how the season is progressing so far,” said MRP-Birel AMERICA driver lead engineer, Chris Lobaugh. “We have shown that the product is good, winning in each class this season, and that by all working together we are all showing well. We have a very young team, yet a lot of these young guys are getting comfortable early and running up front. That says a lot for the approach we are taking in helping to develop young drivers into champions.”
On such driver showed his pole sitting performance at the Stars “Race of the Americas” was no fluke. Nick Tonkin took a major victory in ICA aboard his Birel/TM package on Sunday after starting third and was consistently one of the fastest all weekend. The MRP-Birel AMERICA pilot, with support from his local dealer, R3 Karting of Abbotsford BC, Canada, who was on hand tuning his engine program, had been racing in the top 5 all weekend. The young Canadian went out in Saturday’s final while in the third position with an engine failure due to the harsh desert conditions and ended up 7th. Tonkin rebounded well for Sunday and soldiered on to third in the prefinal before taking the overall victory by nearly 3-seconds in the final after a stellar pass for the lead.

"After Saturday’s engine failure we knew that we had to keep the time that we put on our motor to a minimum,” said Tonkin. “In the Sunday morning practice I only went out for a couple laps just to test out a chassis change. Then during qualifying we had a pretty good guess for where the lap times would be so I went out for just a couple fast laps and got a fast one then came in once again to limit the time on our motor. During the race the leader and I had pulled away from the rest of the field and I noticed his chassis slowly going away. I just waited for the right moment but unfortunately he had an engine failure as I was looking forward to a good battle with him. I'd like to thank Chris and Tim Lobaugh from MRP-Birel AMERICA and Tracy Beier from R3 Karting for all their help and support. I am honored to be driving with their help.”
Though Tonkin went out in Saturday’s final, James Kennedy stepped up and carried the Birel flag to a fine second-place result. He would place 11th on Sunday.
